Love in 2020: A Poem

Professor Hilary Cremin, August 6, 2020

In this new poem, Hilary shares her reflections on love and connection in the era of COVID-19. During a time of social distancing, when physical closeness has become a health hazard, how can we understand these new challenges posed by COVID to connection, love and proximity in 2020?

Love in 2020

I am a multitude.

A garden

Of dermatophytes

Blooms

On my skin.

Protease and maltase

Dwell in my gut.

An empire

Floats in my eye.

If I touch

Your hand,

Which kingdoms

Will be born,

Or die?

If I Inhale

The essence

Of you,

Mingling

Pulmonary microbial

Communities,

Will I be re-born?

Or die?
